Boat is in Jamestown. Local yard wants more than $400 to haul boat and place on my trailer and unstep the mast. Seems steep to me is this about right?

Cheaper alternatives??

Thanks, Walter

At a rate of $80/hr with 2 people that is 2.5 hours. This is doesn't seem unreasonable. Of course you can do it yourself and save yourself the $400. You need to have access to a crane (to get the boat on the trailer) and a yard arm/block and tackle system to unstep the mast (or a gin pole).

Remember if they do it and they mess anything up you have liablity coverage.

Just things to consider.

Will,

Thanks for the reply. I did find Sail Newport.

I joined, and Vinny and crew were very helpful teaching me how to use the hoist and place the boat on the trailer.

I towed the boat over the bridge to my yard in Jamestown with my Subaru Outback Wagon. May have set the record for the smallest ( most inappropriate) vehicle to tow a J/24.
