I’m a little unsure on the mechanics involved on prebend issues.  Hoping maybe someone can straighten me out.

In rig tuning my primary focus has been on headstay sag then prebend.  I have had to over compensate tightening on my lowers to reduce prebend.  I have now purchased a longer headstay (9 mm).

Does anybody know how this will affect my prebend?  Is it going to make it worst?

I can probably move my mast butt forward now, will this reduce prebend?

I can also move my mast back by 5 mm would this reduce prebend?

My thru bar is new and from APS.  My spreaders are new from APS also.  Would shortening the spreaders help reduce prebend?

Thanks Guys

have you checked your measurements under the class rules. if your forestay is class length prebend is dependant on the sails you are going to use. you need to set the rig up according to the sail makers guide every J is different and requires tuning of the mast. but the guide will assist you in basic mast setup
