The first event of the 2026 J/24 Class National Circuit— the Nino Menchelli Trophy National Regatta— concluded with a victory for Ignazio Bonanno’s Italian Navy team aboard LA SUPERBA. The event was excellently organized, under the delegation of the FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) and the Club Nautico Marina di Carrara. As the reigning national champions, LA SUPERBA took the top spot on the podium, finishing ahead of the winners of the opening race: BRUSCHETTA GUASTAFESTE— owned by sisters Sonia & Alessia Ciceri and Ancilla Scaccia, and helmed by Pierluigi Puthod. Then, Pietro Diamanti’s JAMAICA took the bronze. Four races were successfully completed on Saturday. However, despite attempts by the CN Marina di Carrara RC/PRO team, Sunday’s racing was canceled due to insufficient wind. The dinner held for all crews on Saturday evening was very much appreciated. “We got off to a flying start with four excellent races on the first day—though it’s a shame about the second day, which unfortunately didn’t allow us to complete even a single race,” commented Fleet Captain Francesco Nucara. “Still, it was wonderful to have nearly 20 boats here for this opening leg. The standard of the crews was extremely high, and the races were fiercely contested; congratulations to the winners, who—as always— were in top form.” “It was a truly enjoyable experience for me as well,” added Massimo Frigerio, who was competing aboard MAGICA FATA. “Having four very young sailors— ranging in age from 14 to 23—on board was fantastic. I must thank them all— in order of age: Giovanni (the youngest), Eleonora, Edoardo and Nicolò. They are a great team; their grit, their passion for the sea and their eagerness to sail are absolutely explosive. Now, all that remains is to log plenty of training hours. I hope that, through this experience, I have helped launch a new generation of J sailors.” For more Italian J/24 Class information, visit https://www.j24.it/.
